Yes, you’re trackable anywhere doing anything. The issue is that torrents show your IP openly without having to go through additional legal hurdles attaining data from third parties (like web hosts). This is why you never see or hear about DMCA or threatening emails from ISPs for copyright infringement when direct downloading, but you’ll most certainly get them when torrenting.
This can mostly be avoided if you use VPNs, sure, but direct downloading doesn’t come with additional monthly fees or reduced data speeds.
