Sam and Max Save the World-SKIDROW

Sam and Max Save the World-SKIDROW

Sam is a six-foot canine detective with a love of justice. Max is a hyperkinetic rabbity-thing with a taste for mayhem. Together, they’re the Freelance Police. And they’re about to save the world.

Good to have you back, little buddy!

In 2006, the comic book crime-fighting duo Sam & Max starred in the first full-fledged episodic game from Telltale, the studio that went on to make The Walking Dead and Batman: The Enemy Within.

Now everyone’s favorite dog and rabbity-thing are back in Sam & Max Save the World Remastered, a new version of their first season of episodic games that has been lovingly updated by a small group of the original developers with the blessing of Sam & Max creator Steve Purcell.

Return to the adventure game that was once called "gaming’s first sitcom" and is today known as "the remaster you didn’t know you were waiting for." With enhanced graphics, new widescreen and gamepad support, five new musical tracks, and the same brain-tickling puzzles and offbeat humor that won it IGN’s Best Adventure GOTY award back in the day, Sam & Max Save the World Remastered is a modern classic that you’ll love to play—or play again.

Now, let’s go save the world…

It’s just another day at the office for the self-proclaimed Freelance Police when the Commissioner calls in with a disturbing report: former child stars are running amok in the street! What starts as an open-and-shut case of idiotic vandalism balloons into an all-out conspiracy as Sam and Max encounter one miscreant after another who have been mysteriously hypnotized. (You can tell from the "spinny thing" they do with their eyes.)

Who’s the source of this malfeasance, and what is their dastardly plan? Cracking this case will require Sam’s nose for detective work, Max’s lack of conscience, an assortment of inventory items, and a little help from neighbors Sybil Pandemik, Bosco, and Jimmy Two-Teeth. From Sam & Max’s street to the White House lawn, inside the internet, and all the way to the moon, this baffling mystery gets weirder and funnier as it unfolds.

Remasters of games can be good if done right, and while there appear to be a few positive reviews on Steam about the first season of Sam & Max Save The World, the original voice actors for both Sam and Bosco’s voices, are not included in this Remaster.

So unless you are a fan of the original three seasons that Telltale Games did for the Sam & Max series, the replacement voice actors for both Sam and Bosco, may or may not be an issue for you. (Unless you don’t really mind the changes, notice the difference, or are playing the game for the very first time, without having played any of the other Sam & Max games, or the one from Lucas Arts, then this shouldn’t really matter to you).

Also, since Telltale Games fell under new management, there is no guarantee that the other two seasons of Sam & Max (Season 2: Beyond Time and Space, and Season 3: The Devil’s Playhouse), will receive the same kind of Remaster treatment as Sam & Max Save The World has received.

Furthermore, while Season 2 and 3 have been de-listed from GOG’s store pages, you can still find individual episodes for Season 2 and 3 on Steam for the original Telltale Games series for Sam & Max as it is properly listed.

Strangely enough, both GOG and Steam versions of the original Lucas Arts Sam & Max Hit The Road (click n’ point game) is still available, aside from the New Re-master of Sam & Max Save The World.

Glad I held on to my original Telltale Games copies of all 3 Seasons that include all the episodes from GOG before it got de-listed.

Fans of the Lucas Arts Sam & Max, as well as the original 3 Seasons from the Telltale Games series, might like to know that Sam & Max was an original comic book drawn up by Steve Purcell in 1987, who went on to work for Lucas Arts when the iconic Sam & Max Hit The Road (point n’ click game) for Windows PC came out in 1993.
There was also an animated 24 episode show that aired on Fox Kids named The Adventures of Sam & Max: Freelance Police, that ran from 1997 through to 1998.
