KEY FEATURES

  • Experience a “soundless” world
The player not only controls Dane but also experiences the world in the way Dane does. As a deaf protagonist the audio landscape of the world he lives in consists of soundless and muffled audio, leaving it up to the player to make their own interpretation as the search for the masked man unfolds.
  • Exhilarating combat:
    – Experience fast, visceral and adrenaline-fueled combat choreographed by Tatsuro Koike, renowned for directing the action in the Yakuza franchise.
    – Simple on the surface, but with brutal combos, the combat system is easy to pick up like old school beat’em-up action games, whilst offering combat variation and thrill.
    – Unleash an arsenal of combat moves ranging from punch and kick combos, to grappling and throwing enemies.
    – Give stunned opponents a savage beat down or slam them into environment objects to set up brutal attacks.
    – Defend yourself with split second dodges that can result in close-shaves and counterattacks.
  • Blurring the lines between live action and gameplay
In addition to high production live action, THE QUIET MAN™ features state of the art CG sequences, facial animations produced in partnership with 3Lateral, Cubic Motion and Human Head Studios to deliver stunning visual fidelity, strongly-felt emotions such as rage, joy and pain, and enables seamless transition and continuity between live action, engine cut scenes and actual gameplay.

The following is the Combat Control Layout for The Quiet Man when using a game controller like the XBox 360 or similiar:

    Y button= Kick
    B button= Grab/Hold
    A button= Dodge
    X button= Punch

NOTE: A button= Also used to interact with some areas in the game, such as to open doors or find objects of interest.
Objects of interest or game environments to interact with are easily found if you have a controller with force-feedback and have vibration turned on. Vibration is on by default in the game settings. When you walk towards something like a door or area in the game, your controller will start to vibrate, letting you know in which direction you should move or what to inspect.

Left control stick= move your character

Right control stick= move the in-game camera around to view your surroundings in an up, down, left, right motion

Right Shoulder button= Run and Rush your opponent

    Left Shoulder button= Not used

Left+Right Triggers (held together)= Slow down time/Stronger Attacks
NOTE: This special mode can be used only when you are in good health and you see a Blue light flash at the top right corner of the screen.
When the Blue light flashes, it indicates that the special mode is ready to be used.

There are two ways to access this special mode in the game, by landing successful hits on your opponents or by dodging your opponents blows successfully, which will prompt your character to build up enough adrenaline to take out your opponents fast in stronger attacks in a limited time.

NOTE: Sometimes if you successfully dodge an incoming blow from an opponent, you will see your character perform a signature move where he will either block the attack, dodge it entirely, and then counter-attack with an awesome take down finisher.

SPECIAL NOTE: After completing the first play through of the game, you will unlock the game’s audio, giving you the opportunity to hear the whole story and events of what took place, that you
weren’t originally able to hear. The audio can be enabled in the game settings and be heard in your second play through.

The reason for there being limited audio in your first play through has a lot to do with your character in the game and how your character perceives things in a soundless environment due to the nature of being deaf. This is what the developers of the game intended to portray in order to make the gamer feel and experience what it is like to be deaf or hearing impaired.

Try to imagine what it would be like to live in a world where you had limited hearing, or think about what it sounds like when you hold your head under water while someone is speaking to you.
Try humming to yourself and listening to the sound you produce. Well, this is very much like how the game first plays out, any sound that you hear comes out very limited and muffled, almost like being under water. You can faintly hear the sound of your own footsteps, but they are again, very low and muffled. When someone speaks to you, or your character speaks, it comes back as a very low pitched hum.

Although this may be a turn off point for some game players, you shouldn’t dismiss the fact that the developers were going with a completely interesting and unique way of presenting a game that no one had ever played before and bringing that idea forward to the gamer to experience.

The real interesting things about this game that had me hooked to the end of finishing my first play through, was how the live cinematography and unique use of CGI blend well into the game, something of which I haven’t seen used in other games I have played. What makes it even more unique is how it is presented, and the combat mechanics and style with the interesting special mode and fatal finishers your character has and can utilize had me playing through to see how the game’s story would unfold.

On top of that, without going into any spoilers for the game, your own character can grow much more powerful and stronger to a point where it seems like he is almost untouchable. (You will see what I mean as you play further into the game).

The developers of the game were thoughtful and kind enough to include full audio in the game that can be unlocked in your second play through, as they had intended for the gamer to experience after successfully completing the game once.

This is one game I feel that should not go overlooked, as it is something quite unique, and nothing like it has ever come before it.
